HP Color LaserJet Pro M182nw Review

Available at Amazon

The HP Color LaserJet Pro M182nw is a wireless, multifunction printer for personal and small workgroup. Featuring Smart Tasks with HP Smart app, it allows easy printing and scanning from your smartphone. Everything you need for handling a variety of tasks conveniently is here.

Among highlighted features include reliable connections and all-in-one functionality. Top quality color is brought to you by HP toner cartridge with JetIntelligence, giving crisp and vibrant outputs. With a compact design, this versatile desktop device is simple to use.

Hefty Printer with Boxy Design

In terms of appearance, the M182nw seems formal with a boxy design. The absence of automatic document feeder gives a concise top with a flatbed for scanning and making copies. Featuring a slope control panel with numerical keypads, controlling this tool comes easy.

The control panel is equipped with a 2-line LCD display for showing information about device status and more. I am pretty sure you will always know what the printer is doing. In addition to numeric keypads, functional keypads are also available.

When it comes to dimension, the hefty printer measures 11.5 inches by 16.5 inches by 15 inches (HWD and weighs 34.6 pounds. It fits snugly into any space, although it possibly makes your desktop look rather crowded.

Compared to its LaserJet counterpart the HP Color LaserJet Pro M283fdw, this model is a few inches shorter. The reason is quite obvious—it doesn’t feature an ADF at the top. Consequently, you have to put extra effort into manual duplexing.

Handy MFP for Improved Productivity

Intended for use in home environment and small offices, this printer has much to offer. All-in-one features enables you to tackle a variety of tasks including printing, scanning, and making copies. Despite the many functions it offers, all the specs are not a trivia.

1. Print

HP Color LaserJet Pro M182nw

The printing machine is armed with a color laser technology. Of course, this means a lot to produce high quality output for any documents, such as text and graphics. On top of that, it is also supported by HP ImageREt 3600 that enhances image quality for good looking photos.

Designed for low printing volume, the HP Color LaserJet Pro M182nw offers a low-key page volume up to 1500 per month with a monthly duty cycle up to 30,000 pages. With this, the M182nw is not an ideal choice for bigger workgroups or offices.

2. Copy

And when it comes to copier, this device supports up to 600 x 600 copy resolution for mono and color. With a relatively fast copy speed up to 17 pages per minute and maximum copies up to 99 pages at a time, you will have more time for tackling other tasks.

The copier highlights enlargement and reduction feature, in addition to collation copy that comes standard. However, it doesn’t support automatic duplex due to the lack of automatic document feeder.

3. Scan

If you are more into scanning, this scanner is a feature you are going to love. It comes with office-standard optical resolution up to 1200 x 1200 dpi, providing you with clean and highly legible documents in various file formats.

The M182nw offers a single scan type, thanks to flatbed scanner with CIS element that allows easy access. Just as with the copier, duplex scanning is not supported.

Fair Speed Rating

Designed for the entry-level segment, it is neither speedy nor tardy. HP rates this model at 17 pages per minute for black and color. It also takes more than 60 seconds to complete 4×6 snapshots. While it is just fine for home use, it might not be an efficient printer for workgroup and offices.

As a comparison, the LaserJet Pro M283fdw delivers up to 22 pages per minute for black and color. It is not the fastest laser printer for entry level but it helps save a lot of time, especially if you are working with a bulk of documents.

HP Color LaserJet Pro M182nw Media and Paper Handling

The HP Color LaserJet Pro M182nw is a multifunction printer that supports multiple media types and sizes. In addition to plain paper, it prints well on glossy paper, bond paper, photo paper, pre-punched, recycled. Few paper types for creative purpose are also compatible, such as cardstock and labels.

HP Color LaserJet Pro M182nw Media and Paper Handling

Moreover, the input tray is able to handle a wide range of media sizes. Not only does it support popular sizes like Letter, Legal, or A4, it is also compatible with envelopes, postcards, Oficio, and even 16K. Besides, it supports custom size up to 8.5 x 14 inches.

How about the capacity? This model features a single input tray that allows up to 150 sheets of plain paper. For output paper management, it is equipped with a 100-sheet output bin. With the absence of automatic document feeder, this is all you can get from the device.

Despite the relatively low input capacity, I don’t think it is a big matter. Considering the M182nw is built for personal and small workgroup, it gives you enough time before the next paper reload.

HP Color LaserJet Pro M182nw Print Results

I have few things to reveal about this printer’s performance and output coming to my favorite part. As a color laser printer, it works pretty well to handle a range of printing tasks, from text to photos. It might be a low-cost device but it churns out expensive print results.

The HP’s M182nw doesn’t find any difficulties working with text. Like typical laser printers, it produces sharp black text while maintaining them in a good shape. High legibility and good-looking text is all you need to handle professional documents.

It works the same way for graphics and charts. Good news for you, this budget printer is more than enough to print PowerPoint handouts or spreadsheets. It prints gradients without streaking or banding, not to mention it can tackle smooth lines from end to end.

Toner and Cartridges

Using 4 individual cartridges (black, cyan, magenta, yellow), this color laser jet printer allows efficient running cost. The toner cartridge features JetIntelligence that ensures high quality color and optimizes printer performance to the top. It is one of their key secrets to excellent output.

HP 215A

Just in case your ink is running out, replacement cartridges are available for purchase. This model is also compatible with cartridge HP 215A toner for colors (CMY) and black. Standard volume prints up to 1050 pages for black and 850 pages yield for color.

The M182nw features dynamic security which works only with HP original cartridge. This means it is not possible to use other than HP original cartridges since they don’t have the chip.

Wired and Wireless Connectivity

Connecting printer with compatible devices is convenient, thanks to wired and wireless connectivity that comes standard. While it features Hi-Speed USB and built-in Ethernet for a robust and stable wired connection, it supports wireless connection with Wi-Fi.
