This printer can be a nice focal point in your office. Thanks to monochromatic nuance that evokes a neutral look, allowing the device to blend in. Coming with a robust and premium build, it makes a new statement in the workspace while getting your tasks done.
An automatic document feeder embedded in this product supports duplex printing for enhanced work efficiency. It also features a 2.7-inch touchscreen display where you can manage and control device operation. Neither numeric keypads nor function buttons are available on the panel.
Multifunction Printer for Various Tasks
A printer with multiple functions accommodate all your printing needs. Featuring excellent specs for each function, this printer offers great versatility for the office environment.
1. Print
All printers under the OfficeJet Pro product line use HP thermal inkjet technology and the 9018 follows the stream. This print technology comes together with up to 4800 x 1200 optimized dpi to ensure high quality print result.
Designed for small businesses makes this printer ideal for low printing volume. It is suggested to print up to 1,500 pages per month with a monthly duty cycle up to 25,000 pages. This volume rating suits small offices or workgroups that print no more than 50 pages per day.
2. Copy
The copier works well to make copies of document, both simplex and duplex. Thanks to the automatic document feeder that allows efficient copies for mono and color. With the ability to deliver up to 15 copies per minute, completing your tasks won’t be a big deal.
Moreover, there are many copier settings to choose from. You can easily set paper type, paper size, and copy quality as preferred. It also enables you to opt for enlarge or reduce settings.
3. Scan
A versatile scanner can transform printed documents into high quality digital files for space-efficient storage. The HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 features optical character recognition for highly legible text on digital formats, in addition to scan to email, Smart Tasks shortcut, and more.
With CIS technology, it scans up to 8 images per minute for mono and color with up to 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution. You may opt to use flatbed for simplex scanning or ADF for duplex.
4. Fax
Fax functionality comes standard with 300 x 300 dpi resolution (black). The transmission speed is rated at 4 seconds per page with up to 100 pages of fax memory. Featuring busy redial, junk fax blocker, and group dial, this fax is sufficient for small businesses.
Fast Speed for Fast Work Pace
Unlike the Canon PIXMA G3260 that is intended for home use, the 9018 brags about higher performance with good speed rating. This model prints up to 22 pages per minute for black and 18 pages per minute for color.
Although it depends on a number of factors, such as type of document and connectivity used during the operation, this speed rating is good enough for business purpose. From my point of view, this speed is comparable to entry-level laser printers.
Large Paper Capacity
When it comes to paper handling, this printer relies on a single input tray that secures up to 250 sheets of plain paper. The same tray is also able to hold up to 50 sheets of cards or 30 sheets of envelopes. Thanks to this versatility that allows easy media loading before use.
Automatic document feeder that holds up to 35 sheets of paper increases the input capacity up to 285 in sum total. An output tray is also embedded in this device. With output capacity up to 60 sheets of plain paper, it keeps your paper smudge-free and organized.
When working with business documents, chances are that you need to print on various media types. Luckily, the HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 supports a variety of media types, including plain paper, brochure, photo paper, presentation paper, and much more.
Few media sizes are also supported. In addition to popular paper sizes like Letter and Legal, it also accommodates other media sizes, such as Envelope, Card, Executive, and custom size up to 8.5 x 14 inches.
Despite the differences, this model has something in common with the PIXMA G3260—both products support borderless printing. However, the 9018 only supports on photo and brochure paper.
HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 Output Quality
An office printer has always been demanded to deliver high quality output. I can confirm the HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 meets this standard with all the good things it has. Designed with quality in mind, it displays a professional performance to accommodate business documents.
This model is powerful enough to produce highly legible text with crisp and sharp black color. I find neither blank spot nor weird spacing in every document printed using this machine. Not to mention it works well for small characters.
When it comes to graphics and charts, this printer is also dependable to handle the tasks. There is no major issues with lines, gradients, and fills so you can rely on this device to print reports or presentation handouts.
How about photo printing ability? The 9018 is not a photo-centric printer but it works well to bring your photos into life. Good looking photo quality is more than sufficient for marketing materials or creative projects in your workgroup.
HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 Ink and Cartridges
I don’t find something significant about printer’s ink and cartridges. However, the good news is that it uses four individual cartridges instead of two. Pigment-based black ink boasts sharp and crisp black printing while dye-based color inks promise vibrant colors to bring your photos to life.
This model is compatible with HP 962XL High Capacity cartridges that print up to 2,000 pages yield for black and 1,600 pages for color. But if you wish to get standard replacement cartridge, HP 962 gives you up to 1,000 pages for black and 700 pages for color.
Connectivity, Software, Security
Connecting this printer to desktop and smartphone comes easy with wired and wireless connectivity. While wired connectivity includes a High-Speed USB port, a Host USB, and Ethernet port, wireless capability is only supported by Wi-Fi. No Bluetooth or NFC is available.
Aside from the USB port for connectivity, the HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 is also equipped with a front-facing USB for direct printing. Compatibility with HP Smart app, Apple AirPrint, and Mopria allows instant printing from your mobile device.
Enhanced security gives an added value to the device. It features not only authentication but also passwords and encryption to keep your data secure.

As your business expands, your print volume may increases gradually. When this comes, the 9018 might not be able to accommodate your print volume. It only has a single input tray which cannot be upgraded.
Final Thoughts

If you need a multifunction printer with full features, the 9018 is a solid performer that simplifies your tasks. But if you need a device with higher input capacity or upgradable input tray, you might refer to Lexmark printers.
